A Homeless Writer’s Poetry Leads To Family 35 Years Later

Unnoticed by anyone around him for 35 years, an elderly homeless guy wrote lovely poetry and short stories throughout the day. This 77-year-old Brazilian poet and philosopher is the subject of the highly praised documentary “The Conditioned,” which chronicles his extraordinary journey.

Raimundo Arruda Sobrinho spent a considerable amount of time outside in his makeshift asylum writing. He looked forward to the day when his writing would be shared and read by everyone. However, in the spring of 2011, when he became good friends with a woman by the name of Shalla, Raimundo’s life was forever altered. She was really hoping to see Raimundo constantly writing on scraps of paper while carrying a pen and a pencil. One of his sonnets was given to her.

Shalla created a Facebook profile and shared the old man’s compositions with the world after being deeply moved by his work. Shalla and Raimundo weren’t prepared for what came next. One guy in particular emerged from the shadows after his poems and stories were made public; you’ll be amazed when you find out who it is.

A 77-year-old poet and philosopher from Brazil is named Raimundo Arruda Sobrinho. The late 1970s saw the homelessness of Raimundo. He wrote stories and poetry on the streets for the following 35 years, but nobody knew about his stunning creations.

It wasn’t until 2011 that Raimundo’s life would change. Shalla Monteiro passed by Raimundo on a daily basis and noticed that he always had a pen and paper in his hand. Each day, Shalla would talk to Raimundo and he would share his poems with her. Shalla commented in “The Conditioned,” a short documentary film,

“WHEN I SAW RAIMUNDO FOR THE FIRST TIME, HE GAVE ME ONE OF HIS POEMS. FROM THAT MOMENT, HE STARTED TO BE A PART OF MY LIFE.”

SHALLA WANTED TO SHARE RAIMUNDO’S WRITINGS WITH THE WORLD AFTER BEING OUTRAGEOUSLY IMPRESSED BY THE POEMS HE SHARED WITH HER. To post his stories, she created a Facebook page.

This man’s persuasive writings quickly inspired readers, and the Facebook page quickly grew to have over 100,000 likes. Additionally, many in his community paid attention to him because they would bring gifts and express their appreciation for his beautiful writings.

But one very unexpected individual came out of Raimundo’s sudden fame: his long-lost brother. After establishing a Facebook connection, his brother invited Raimundo to move in with him.
