Onscreen, actor Danny Trejo plays a harsh person, but when it comes to his family and celebrating their successes, he has a soft place.
Recently, the Machete franchise’s actor turned to social media to congratulate his son Gilbert on a significant achievement. Trejo’s 34-year-old son celebrated eight years clean on July 17.
“Any parents out there with addicted children, I didn’t believe my kid would make it, and now he’s my best buddy!” There is yet hope!” Trejo expressed his thoughts on Twitter.
The actor is well-versed in the sober lifestyle, having been clean for almost 50 years. He was just eight years old when he first tried marijuana. He got his first drink at the age of 12, and by 14 he was injecting heroin.

My son Gilbert Trejo has 8 years clean and sober today! I love you so much, and am so proud of the man you’ve become. Any parents out there with children struggling with addiction, I didn’t think my son was going to make it and today he’s my best friend! There is hope! pic.twitter.com/E2m2ggfIiQ
