Phoo Chan, a brilliant California-based bird photographer whose work has appeared in National Geographic, has shot a once-in-a-lifetime sequence of photos of a crow landing and riding on the back of a bald eagle in mid-flight.
“When other raptors much greater in size are sighted in their region, crows are infamous for furiously harassing them, and generally these ‘intruders’ quietly withdraw without much fuss,” adds Chan. However, the crow did not appear to worry the bald eagle in this photo, and the bald eagle did not appear to resent the crow’s presence invading its personal space. What was more weirder was that the crow came to a brief rest on the eagle’s back, as if taking a free scenic tour, and the eagle just agreed.”
