Ted Danson, 75, Still Makes Breakfast in Bed for Wife of 27 Years – They Raised Blended Family on a Quiet Ranch

Danson and Mary Steenburgen were both in relationships when they met and agreed to stay friends for a long time.

Years later, on a canoe trip and a memorable lunch, everything changed between them.

They now live happily with children from many marriages and adore their grandkids on a beautiful ranch where the entire family frequently gathers.

The majority of people became acquainted with actor Ted Danson through the comedy “Cheers,” which aired for 11 years and garnered him two Emmy Awards. He also received two Golden Globe nominations and became a popular figure on American television.

Younger generations may remember him from “The Good Place,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” However, Danson’s film and television credits span decades and a wide range of productions.

Danson, on the other hand, began his career directly out of college in an Off-Broadway musical called “The Real Inspector Hound.” He eventually relocated to Los Angeles and trained at the Actor’s Institute, where he would later teach.

“Something About Amelia,” “The Women’s Room,” and his television debut, “When the Bough Breaks,” are among his other notable parts. You may recognize him from “Dad,” “Made in America,” “Saving Private Ryan,” “Three Guys and a Little Woman,” and more films.

His performances in “Cross Creek” and subsequently “Pontiac Moon” left an indelible impression on him, as they set the stage for the remainder of his life, as he met the person who would not only become his life partner, but also his life. She became both his colleague and his life’s love.

Past Partnerships and Meetings of His Mary Steenburgen is an actress.

Before meeting true love, Danson dated various women. In 1970, he married Randall Gosh for the first time. They met in college and married before finishing their degrees. Their careers, however, took off, and they parted in 1975.

Cassandra Coates, the actor’s second wife, and he had their first daughter, Kate, two years later. They eventually adopted another daughter, Alexis. Coates was disabled as a result of complications from her only childbirth.

This strained their friendship. After meeting on the set of “Made in America” in 1992, Danson famously dated actress Whoopi Goldberg while still married to Coates. After the media learned of their romance, Coates filed for divorce, which was completed in 1993.

Sadly, Ted Danson’s divorce was complex and costly, and his affair with Goldberg ended in 1993 as well. Fortunately, the actor was now free to reunite with someone significant.

He met Mary Steenburgen at the “Cross Creek” auditions in 1983, but he was married to Coates at the time. Danson has stated that it was a difficult period in his life. Steenburgen was also in a relationship at the time. It was not the appropriate moment.

Fortunately, Danson was not cast to portray Steenburgen’s husband in the production, and they both agree that it was better that way. They reconnected on the set of “Pontiac Moon” in 1993, despite the fact that neither was searching for a relationship at the time.

Steenburgen had recently divorced Malcolm McDowell, the father of her two children, Charles and Lily Amanda. Danson did not believe he was “relationship material” at the time, and the actress was not ready for anything more than a friend ship.

Nevertheless, the world had other ideas for them, and everything changed when Danson and his buddies prepared a one-of-a-kind vacation. They couldn’t conceal their feelings any longer since passion was in the air.

Their Relationship Turned Romantic

Danson persuaded Mary Steenburgen to join him and his pals on a canoe excursion to Mendocino, California. They went on a picnic, which the actor described as “wonderful,” and they fell back in love.

Nevertheless, the actress stated that they had been together since they were 40 and 45 years old. They met during a tough period when they were still fighting “some demons,” but it was good that they reunited at that time.

Their relationship remained stable after that, and Danson proposed on February 8, 1995. He traveled to Houston, where she was working on “Powder,” to meet Steenburgen for her birthday and proposed, knowing she was the one for him.

On October 7, 1995, they married in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Their guest list included then-President Bill Clinton and the first lady, both of whom Steenburgen knew well.

Kate, the actor’s daughter, and Lily, Steenburgen’s daughter, were bridesmaids, while Alexis was a flower girl. The rings were brought down the aisle by the actress’s son.

Their Happy Marriage Today

Following their marriage, Danson and Steenburgen appeared in another film, “Gulliver’s Travels.” Their professions continued as they settled into a happy marriage. You may recall them from the 2004 film “It Gotta Be Love,” in which they played a couple who sought to divorce but reconciled.

The entire family came in 2009 to commemorate Steenburgen’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They were joined by their four offspring from various marriages. In 2013, the actress talked up about her relationship with the actor and how she had quit dating entirely.

he actress admitted to being skeptical about love after her divorce and believing their connection would be nothing more than an infatuation. She stated:

“He was clearly sent from above.”

Regrettably, rumors of a divorce surfaced in 2017, but it was all due of their characters in “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” They portrayed an exaggerated version of themselves, and the show’s marriage was getting divorced.

Danson arrived on “The Jess Cagle Show” and “announced” their split, which was taken rather seriously. The tale became viral online, but it wasn’t widely known until the program aired. Nonetheless, Danson and Steenburgen had to explain things to their worried friends and relatives.

Fortunately, the rumors died away, and the couple resumed their happy lives. Danson got a Critic’s Choice award in 2018 and celebrated with an Instagram selfie. The actor received critical acclaim for his performance in “The Good Place.”

During that year, they talked about keeping the flame alive in their relationship. Danson claimed that he often complements his wife, and the actress confirmed to People that the actor tells her she’s gorgeous. She is grateful since she understands that many ladies do not receive such attention.

Steenburgen spoke about her spouse again in November 2018, when Danson was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive. She said that their love gets “more profound” by the day, and that they share life’s ups and downs. She went on to say:

“In this life, he is my partner in the fullest meaning of the word.”

Their marriage was strengthened by love, tenderness, and strength, according to the actress. She referred to him as the fulfillment of her childhood fantasies, and she didn’t take it lightly. Steenburgen also adores his attractive looks.

In 2019, the actor said that their relationship is stronger because they meditate, something Steenburgen taught him at the start of their partnership. Danson is a spiritual person, and their marriage is a significant part of that.

They meditate together to build their relationship because they will be too busy to be there for each other else. The technique has also greatly aided his arthritis, which was previously crippling.

In 2020, the actress celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with an Instagram post. She added the following caption:

“Congratulations on your 25th anniversary!” This was SUPPOSED to be a lovely loving anniversary shot, but you’ve got a large chunk of salad in your teeth. So there you have it. Thank you for making me laugh today, as well as the previous 9,125 days. You are the world’s goofiest, smartest, nicest, dreamboat. Yeah, that’s a huge ass piece of salad, but it doesn’t detract from your famous beauty. I can’t believe how fortunate I am. Ted, happy anniversary. Mary, love.”

The actress has also stated that Danson is usually very nice to her. They still treat each other nicely by doing things like bringing each other coffee. Yet the key idea is to remember to recognize their affection every day.

Danson raved about his wife shortly before the launch of “Zoey’s Incredible Playlist,” so the couple is continuously praising each other. His “biggest role,” he says, is being Mary Steenburgen’s spouse.

They featured on People’s Love Issue in 2021 and discussed the secrets to a happy relationship. According to the actress, she told the magazine:

“Everyone I’ve ever loved has taught me so much, but I feel like my life truly began when I met him. “I believe that love is just listening to your heart.”

Meanwhile, Danson emphasized that his most essential rule is that everyone always tells the truth. He also stated that being appreciative for your life is the only way for your heart to expand. The actor went on to say:

“Part of being human is experiencing love and being loved. It is something I have every day. It’s simply wonderful when that type of circle of loving and being loved starts going.”

Steenburgen’s son, Charlie, married actress Lily Collins, well known for her performance in Netflix’s “Emily in Paris,” on September 4, 2021. While the entire family gathered in Dunton, Colorado, for the event, the couple celebrated with images and congrats on Instagram.

Danson told Kelly Clarkson on her talk program in 2022 that he feels “helpless” without his wife. He also mentioned that they used to have a two-week rule, but that has since changed. They now despise being separated from one other for longer than a day.

Their lovely home and life together

Danson and Steenburgen reside on a 4,000-square-foot Santa Monica ranch that they purchased in 2018. They also own the adjacent land. They spent $5.15 million at the time for the property, which has three bedrooms and four baths.

They’ve owned various properties throughout the years, but their L.A. ranch appears to be the most well-known, as seen by their online appearances and social media posts. They sold a getaway property in Ojai, California, that used to belong to Ellen DeGeneres, for more than $8 million in 2019.

Their children and grandkids frequently pay them visits. Steenburgen shared a photo of Danson on Instagram in 2020, along with a description of their home and the “reading nook” they constructed. The actress also expressed regret at not being able to visit her grandchildren on a regular basis owing to the state of the globe. She stated:

“When we first moved into our house, we made a special room for our grandkids named The Book Nook. Now it’s our job every other day to read a few of books to them from there, rotating with their other grandparents. I find it difficult not to cuddle with them when I read, but I am happy for this wonderful connection.”

Kate and Alexis Danson, and Charlie and Lilly Steenburgen, are all grown up and have begun having their own children. The actors enjoy being their adoring grandparents. Only Lilly Steenburgen has had children: Clementine, Goldie, and Vera.

The actress commended him in 2018 for being a wonderful parent, stepfather, and grandfather. She made the following remark:

“We’ve been grandparents for six years now. We have two grandkids, and they can’t get enough of him. They simply adore him. They essentially regard him as a jungle gym. Teddy is his name, and he is adored by everyone.”

Everything the actor does is to be more “present” with his family, including meditation to keep his arthritis, an incurable condition, at bay. Danson elaborated:

“If you are more present, more in your body and less in your thoughts, you are open to be genuine with whoever you are with… be there with my grandkids and my wife, be genuine, loving, and present.”
