We come across small stones and pebbles all the time, but have you ever considered what we might do with them than put them somewhere? Fortunately, a Japanese artist has come up with innovative ways to convert them into something truly extraordinary.
Meet Akie Nakata (commonly known as Akie), a Japanese artist whose art paintings have captivated audiences all over the world. She transforms ‘boring’ stones into little animals that you may hold in your hand.
Akie believes that each rock has a story to tell, therefore she decides to utilize art to change their lives. She usually chooses stones on which she can observe animals to paint on. She then delicately paints the stone’s surfaces with acrylic paint. Akie’s stone critters range from cats and dogs to owls, mice, and even an entire opossum family.
Since she was a child, Akie has liked collecting stones and sketching. She started painting rocks in 2011 after coming upon a stone that looked like a rabbit while wandering along the riverbed.
